Happy Friday, ‘Yall!
So…this is the first time I’ve written anything since the accident. Finally, my arm has healed so that I have some semblance of a normal life. I only have about 75% of my normal wrist use, but that’s so much better than it has been. I definitely have a new appreciation for many of the simple things in life- especially after weeks of having to apply liquid eyeliner with my left hand.
*very scary*
I’ve decided to try a new approach to this “Favorite Five Friday” thing. I plan to check in with myself daily so that I find something good in each day to write about. It’s my way of making sure I remain centered and appreciative of my life. Because really, life gets so busy that it’s hard to stay mindful. I invite you to find one thing about your day in which you are grateful. In the end, we are the only ones who can make our own lives happy.
Monday
I wore these flat shoes– Yes, that’s right. You are heard me correctly. I have finally discovered the joy of flat shoes. This cute pair of sandals makes the third pair of flat shoes I own! Although flat shoes throw off my balance terribly and I walk funny, my feet are happy. And do I really have to look cute when I work at 46? I don’t think so.
Tuesday
Miami Beet is my new favorite OPI polish for this fall. The picture makes it look more pink, but really, it’s the perfect beet color. (See the above picture.) I usually splurge to purchase one new color each season. I do buy a lot of cheap polishes, but OPI is still my favorite brand because it lasts longer and takes less coats when applying. Some things are totally worth the extra money. Besides, I buy generic cheese and toilet paper. Life is about balance.
Wednesday
Wednesday was Boyfriends Day. I’m so grateful to have him in my life. We just celebrated our 2 1/2 year dating anniversary. He is the calm in my chaotic world. Seriously, I freak out over everything. He always remains calm and reasonable. I need this in my life. I had planned on us grilling out by the pool for dinner. However, the mosquitoes have been so huge since the hurricane, I decided I didn’t want a giant mosquito to tear off one of my limbs. So, we did nothing special and ate inside. Because I’m so broke, he got a homemade card. I’m ready for cooler, less humid weather. I just want the mosquitoes to die. #diealready
Thursday
Thursday was National Vodka Day. I’m all about celebrating Thursdays, because Thursdays are really just Friday Eves. And I’m also all about enjoying a skinny cocktail. Imagine that! One of my favorite skinny cocktails is a Cosmopolitan. Celebrating National Vodka Day was definitely the highlight of my day!
Skinny Cosmo
1 Tablespoon lime juice
1 Packet of sweetener
2 drops of orange extract (instead of the calorie-laden Triple Sec)
1 1/2 ounces vodka
3 ounces of diet cranberry juice
Add ice to a shaker, along with all of the other ingredients. Shake vigorously, and strain into a martini glass. Enjoy!
Friday
Happy World Teacher’s Day to all of my readers who are teachers! You know, teaching is a hard job. Sometimes, I come home and I feel like I’ve fought a battle all day. But, there are those moments that are so worth it for me. Seeing my students get excited about creating excites me. I love that I am able to get them to try new things and to experiment. I was in my happy place watching them finish their name pictures today.
Thanks for letting me share my weekly happies, my friend! Find time to treat yourself this weekend. Definitely make a Skinny Cosmo!
