There is no tired like teacher- tired. Teacher- tired isn’t the same as working-in-the-yard tired. Teacher fatigue is mental. No matter how hard teachers anticipate and prepare, there are always unanticipated curve balls. A teacher must be ready to adjust to change and handle any situation appropriately and immediately. We all did our share of that this week!
Life, in general, gave me a couple of curve balls this week, too. On Thursday, I had to take Dad to the ER for a kidney stone. I’ve never seen someone in so much pain. Because the backseat of my car is so tiny, I drove them in the Tahoe. I haven’t driven anything that big in years. I tried to park three different times and finally gave up. Fortunately, I found an empty parking lot and could pull into a space. Unfortunately, I had to walk through several shady parking lots in the dark to retrieve the car. Fortunately, I survived and made it to work the following day.
When I finally made it to Friday, I celebrated! No matter how difficult the week was, it was great to be back on a schedule, spend time with my school family, and receive my students’ love. A kindergarten boy blew me a kiss, and a third-grade girl complimented my winged eyeliner. What more could I ask?
Here are a few weekend highlights……
Coffee- Coffee at Miltown is our Friday morning tradition. I love their coffee, especially the Dawg, one of my favorites. I always steal a bite of Eric’s cheese bagel.
Hinnant Vineyards– Eric always picks me up from school and takes me to Hinnant Vineyards for a glass of wine to end the week. Chardonnay is my favorite! We love the Mango Cheddar Fire cheese, too.
I found this photo on my phone and laughed! It’s my favorite from the weekend. We will blame that on the wine.
Bread and Bottle- On a whim, we decided to stop at Princeton’s new eatery. It was outstanding! One of my student’s parents owns it. They make everything homemade and use no seed oils. This is a place we will often! Although I’m a carnivore, I did have a few bites of the bread because it was homemade. It was so good! Fridays are my designated cheat days, but I still try to keep it clean.
Yard Work—It’s pine straw season! I’ve begun the month-long process of raking and adding pine straw to my yard. I’ll never need to visit the gym as long as I have a yard. Mom and Dad sell it by the trailer-full if you need any.
Crab Legs and Bubbly—I will gladly do yard work for these two things. It’s my favorite Saturday night tradition, and yard work deserves a reward! We followed up with a movie at Smokey’s Bar.
Weekly Preparation- Sunday is my weekly prep day when I organize the coming week. Since it was the first of the month, I created my September budget. I believe in budgeting. I write down every dime I spend. I aim to pay off my car by the end of the year. I also prepped for my pumpkin painting class at Hinnant on September 25. Stay tuned for future Facebook posts! I designed new business cards, too! I’m so excited about where my life is headed.
As a reminder, take time to breathe through the hard and the tired times. Remember that you are making a difference! Appreciate and reward yourself! Embrace the journey.
