It’s been a while since I’ve shared my Friday Favorites. I actually forget that I have a blog, now that the website consumes so much time. But, I’m definitely not complaining about business. I am grateful.
When I first started my little earring business, I was overwhelmed. I burned out so quickly trying to grow the business that I learned how to schedule and protect my downtime. Life has finally found its happy balance. I still wish I had more time for my art life. But as I’m not so far from retirement, I see time for many things in my not-so-far-away future.
Because of the Arts Council, this has been one of my best years in a very long time. Life sometimes gets busy, and it’s hard to savor the things that make it special. Gathering my Friday Favorites forces me to reflect.
Upon reflection, this past week was really good. The kind of good that makes you feel as if you are floating on a cloud. You know I’d have to document it all.
A Few of My Friday Favorites…..
Time with My Arts Council Friends– You’ve heard me say it a million times. I haven’t felt like I’ve lived in the actual art world until I joined the Arts Council board earlier this year. I’m at the Arts Council every chance I get because it makes me happy being around others who love art. We have such a dynamic, diverse group! Had it not been for the Arts Council, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to start my jewelry business. And I actually have more paintings in the works.
A Week of Healthy Salads- I’ve been off track with my eating for so long. Because I was busy, I’d eat while working and dinner usually consisted of cheese, nuts, and wine. While that is great as a treat, it’s not great every single night. My eating habits were affecting my moods, and I was beginning to notice a lot of inflammation. Since cutting way back on cheese and eating mostly clean foods, I feel so much better. And by the way, I plan to eat all of the strawberries I can this spring. This was the week’s favorite salad. I made it twice!
Egg Dying with My Sister- This was an adventure in every way. It always is- every single year. Boiling eggs isn’t necessarily my most outstanding talent. Surely they must have been cracked before I put them in the water. Yikes! I even sought help from a friend who is a professional. And still. This….
On Sunday afternoon, I dyed the eggs a whole week early. I was thinking Easter was next Sunday. Not one person questioned why I was dying eggs so early. Please, please question me when I do dumb stuff.
My sister and I dyed eggs alone this year. I texted the girls (who were upstairs) and no one responded. It’s a good thing my sister and I aren’t too old to have fun! We’ll be doing this when we are 90.
The kits always crack me up as well. We were expected to paint the entire egg with a brush the size of a needle. Seriously?
But didn’t they turn out pretty? This year’s Easter basket was the best, too. I snagged one for my sister and me at Michaels as they were putting them out. I think they sold out pretty fast. I really got lucky.
Fresh Flowers from Brooke’s Fresh Cut Flower Farm- I literally look at my flowers every morning when I walk into the kitchen. I just love them! Fresh flowers feel so glamorous! I’m always so excited to see what is in my Wednesday delivery. I always sip wine- or better yet, bubbly- as I arrange them. I have to make flower arranging an event! Finally, it’s not taking me an hour to arrange and rearrange the flowers. Flower arranging is definitely not my talent! The poor little flower heads look so droopy and sad by the time I get them as I want them. On occasion, Little (the cat) slips by them but is decidedly uninterested.
Easter Earrings– They’ve been on repeat all week. I’m usually too busy making them to actually make myself a pair. However, I made two extra pairs and hoarded them for myself. If you are local, it’s not too late to order at www.kathrynsstudioboutique.com.
The week ended with a diversity training workshop at the Arts Council and dinner at Brisas with the husband. Chardonnay and yucca fries are a favorite! In case you didn’t know, Eric is Latin and makes amazing yucca at home. I always say that they are yuccalicious, and I realize that’s just weird. He’s rubbing off on me…..
But true to myself, I made bacon when I got home. Because who eats just five fries for dinner? At least I’m a cheap night out!
I hope this leaves you inspired to collect your own Friday Favorites. No matter how busy this weekend, make a little time for yourself.
