Let’s Talk About Goals and Motivation.
Maybe it’s just me, but the pandemic caused me to lose all motivation.
All.
Motivation.
I didn’t wash my hair for days and I didn’t bother with makeup. Pajama pants from Amazon filled my dresser drawers to the brim. Cheese, crackers, and brownies were my dinners of choice. I was a disgusting lazy bum and I felt three shades of gross.
Please, please tell me that I wasn’t the only one…….
Today, I turned the page in my planner to a fresh new month. I felt hopeful and inspired! I felt motivated! And, no, that’s not just the Prozac talking. I really felt good! And since we are (hopefully) closer to normality, my lazy azz finally had the motivation to set some goals.
Are You a Goal Setter?
I’ve been a goal setter since birth. My first goal in life was to be an adult by the age of five. I think I semi-accomplished it. IDK? But seriously, goals help to trigger new behaviors which can create new healthy habits. It gives purpose and direction in our lives. Goals make us productive and improve our sense of self-worth.
But How Does One Set Successful Goals?
- Write your specific goals down in your planner, along with a deadline. Tell people. Doing those things holds you accountable.
- Break your goals down into specific, smaller achievable goals. Daily goals are good, weekly goals are good…. each baby step leads to the finish line!
- Reward yourself each time you meet a goal- even the small goals! Rewards don’t have to be expensive big deals. You know what you like!
What Are My Personal Goals for This Month?
My large goal is to organize the entire house. But, yikes. That’s overwhelming! And it will take forever.
So let’s break it down.
This month, I plan to organize and clean my kitchen. All unused items will go into the attic for storage, or into a donation pile. I plan to spend 15 minutes each day cleaning and organizing. Maybe I’ll blast 80’s music and dance? Whatever it takes to make it happen, I’m in. If I meet my goal, I plan to take a trip to Target or TJ Maxx to purchase something new for my kitchen. I’ll probably take my bestie. It will be a grand event.
I also plan to walk a virtual 5k in October. Maybe I’ll organize a group! More on that later…….there is a whole blog post coming…
Goals Make Life Good, Y’all!
I challenge you to set a new goal. Not every goal has to be health-related. Be creative! Let’s make this fun and track our progress together. What is your goal this month?
