So many happy memories were created on this past Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day 2019 started with coffee and love from my two best sweeties. Little always wakes me with kisses in the morning and Eric always has my coffee ready. It’s the small things that mean so much! These cute mugs came from Target. I’m a sucker for a seasonal mug!
The love continued as I arrived at school. As I unpacked my lunch, I discovered a gift in my bag. What a surprise! In the box were the white and gold Mignonne Gavigan earrings I’ve had my eye on for months! He definitely did well choosing the perfect gift!
The day continued with much love- and many calories. In fact, after a tasty cupcake from my best
Before I left school, I received a frantic text from Eric asking if I’d received the flowers he had sent. What??? Did Eric send flowers? My heart dropped a little when we realized that they had been sent to the wrong school. After a few phone calls to correct the situation, the flowers finally arrived. Honestly, I was a bit surprised to find them in a box. After all, he had previously sent a picture of what the missing arrangement was supposed to look like…..But again, no worries. Since I needed to stop by the grocery store, a box was definitely easier to carry than a vase!
The very first thing I noticed when I got home was the bright red box of candy on my countertop. I knew immediately that it was from my dad. My heart filled with joy! Through the dating woes of my teenage years, and through both divorces, I’ve always been able to depend on my dad for a valentine. The day I no longer have a valentine from him will be the day that my heart breaks into a million pieces. I refuse to even think about that.
My mom came to the rescue to help me get the roses safely in the vase. I was really impressed with the boxed roses! The vase and a box of candy were included in the box and the flowers looked so fresh. Believe it or not, Little has had zero interest in the flowers. Had it been Smokey, the flowers would have been destroyed in
We kept dinner simple and ate at home. We popped a bottle of prosecco and enjoyed a little cheese. I’m pretty sure I had on pajama pants by that point. It was nice not to have to fight the Valentine’s Day dinner crowd. Besides, after snacking on goodies all day, I honestly didn’t have much appetite.
It was such a nice day. There have been several married years when we mutually agreed not to make the effort. And I remember many single years when I did nothing to celebrate. There was even a year here and there that I had actually planned an “I hate Valentine’s Day” party. But I think from here on out- boyfriend or no boyfriend- I’ll always make the effort to make it nice- even if only for myself.
