Usually when someone mentions the word “craft”, I want to run, screaming, in the other direction. Maybe it’s because I’m rebellious or maybe I’m just not your typical art teacher. I ban all crafting/art activities after 3:05 p.m…..unless it involves wine. I will agree to most anything (within reason) if it involves wine. During my first grade art classes this past week, we made snowman ornaments. O.M.G. ! The ornaments were so super-cute and easy that I had to share! I even made extra ornaments for the tree in my classroom.
Materials:
1/2 pack of Model Magic air-dry clay (You can find this at Walmart or most any craft store.)
Permanent markers in assorted colors
Glue
White glitter
Scissors
Ribbon
Directions:
1. Roll the dough into a ball.
2. Flatten the ball to 1/4 inch thickness.
3. Using a marker lid, punch a hole through the top of the clay.
4. Air-dry according to directions on the package.
5. Using the permanent markers, draw a snowman face.
6. Using the glue, apply glitter to the edge of the ornament.
7. Add ribbon. (Don’t skimp. Cute ribbon makes all the difference.)
Model Magic is so easy to use! This is a project that could easily done with kindergarten-age children. Older children could design their ornament with any type of design. The possibilities are endless! The best thing about these ornaments, besides being easy and cheap? They are a keepsake that last for years to come! Making the ornaments was so therapeutic for me that maybe I should try crafting more often. Maybe…..
