Last Wednesday….That’s that last day I fully remember before the pain meds. Wednesday was like most days, except that I had a scheduled root canal. I didn’t really have any problems with the tooth. I just needed to check it off my summer to-do list. After the procedure, I was in a little pain as the numbness began to fade. I fully expected that. What I did not expect is for the swelling and pain to increase to the point I was eating Darvocet like skittles. As the infection set in, it stole the entire Fourth of July weekend. For four days, I did nothing except eat green jello, sleep, and writhe in pain. However, somewhere last Wednesday, in between the root canal and the infection, there was a hurricane. Although we only received wind and strong downpours of rain where we live, Hurricane Arthur loomed by our North Carolina coast. Since I am a the Queen of Celebration, I declared a hurricane party upstairs, at Smokey’s Bar, at the first sight of darkened clouds. In an effort to keep things fairly heathified, I had Ashton prepare a skinny hurricane recipe for you!
A Skinny Hurricane
1-1/2 ounce Bacardi Select Rum
1-1/2 ounce reduced calorie orange juice
1-1/2 ounce diet cranberry juice
slash of grenadine (optional)
cherry and orange slice for garnish
Shake, shake, shake! Serve over ice. Garnish with an orange slice an a cherry.

YUM! That looks so yummy and I love that you created your own skinny version. On the other hand, total bummer about getting the infection and not feeling well 🙁 At least you were still up for a little hurricane party – we do that in the winter and have a Storm Party when we get a snowstorm! Hope you’re feeling much better now 🙂

Samantha, thanks for your comment! On the rare occasion it snows here, we have a Snow Party, too. Last winter, we made margaritas out of snow. We also used Bailey’s in our snow cream. Yum! I will just have to post more skinny cocktails! 🙂
