I’m a huge fan of products that have multiple uses. Coconut oil is one of those things…
It has been an obsession since I first used it more than two years ago. I love frying my eggs in coconut oil (it’s been proven to boost metabolism) and it’s the greatest eye makeup remover ever. But did you know that coconut oil is just as fantastic when used as a moisturizer? When paired with orange or citrus essential oil, it’s a winner. I’m addicted to my homemade coconut oil moisturizer.
Benefits of Coconut Oil:
*Coconut oil, compared to most lotions, is inexpensive. On occasion, I can even find it at the dollar store.
*There are no chemicals in coconut oil. I’m sure I’m exposed to enough chemicals throughout the day without slathering my body with more!
*Coconut oil penetrates on a deeper level because it bonds with the proteins in your skin.
*Coconut kills bacteria, which is great for break-outs!
Benefits of Orange Essential Oil:
*Orange extract boosts mood and eases anxiety.
*It boosts circulation.
*Orange extract acts as an aphrodisiac…. so look out! *wink*
It’s very simple to make the orange coconut oil lotion…
Melt a cup of coconut oil (very briefly) in the microwave. Add at least ten drops of orange (or citrus) essential oil. Stir. Place the oil in the refrigerator until it has hardened. I keep my lotion in my shower so that I don’t forget to use it. After I apply it, I towel the excess off. The rest absorbs very quickly. My skin feels so much softer when I use the coconut oil. Because my skin is well moisturized, I think it has actually lessened the look of cellulite. That’s always a winner!
I love doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss that’s a mix of several different citrus fruits. DoTERRA also makes a Wild Orange Oil that I haven’t tried yet. Although the oils are a little pricey, a little goes a long way. Any small step you can take to reduce chemicals will be beneficial in improving long-term health!
