You might have noticed that I’ve been MIA.
Honestly, I’ve been trying to get myself together for the past year. I went through so many ups and downs in 2017. It was pretty darned tough.
But I’ve decided that 2018 is going to be my best year yet. I’m owning it. It’s going to happen.
What better way to start a “best year yet” than with a Favorite Five Friday post? I think it’s very appropriate. When I focus on the positives, I feel happier. That, my friends, is the power of positive thinking.
1. New Makeup
No matter how broke I am, I realize that there are some things in which a forty-something woman can’t skimp. One of those things is foundation. Thanks to an awesome care package my mother-in-law sent, I discovered this Bobbi Brown foundation. It’s silky smooth and absolutely amazing. I’ve put away the IT Cosmetics foundation for a while because this is my new favorite! The coverage is fantastic and it’s actually yellow enough for this skin of mine. Why, why, why am I so yellow???? (And, yes, I’ll soon catch you up on the current divorce situation soon. But no worries, because all is happy.)
2. An ENTIRE Week of Working
I love a day off. I’m sorry- I might have prayed for snow. But after my first full week of teaching since before Christmas, I can honestly say that it feels good to be back into my usual routine- except for the 5:00 am alarm. That alarm is just not pleasant! But I do enjoy my job. The kids bless me everyday. I can honestly say that even though I spend way too much time on discipline, I love working with the kids. It is my calling. I couldn’t do anything else. But after an entire week of school, I did deserved a treat…don’t ‘cha think?
3. Coconut Oil (On My Face)
My skin is so freaking dry during the winter. I mean, yuck. I’ve tried every moisturizer in the world on my face, including some really high-dollar concoctions. I regularly use coconut oil to remove my eye makeup at night. This week, I took a chance and put it all over my entire face. Oh yes, I did! And I LOVED it! After I slathered it on, I wiped the excess off with a tissue. Literally, I woke to fresher-looking skin. My only issue was when Smokey woke me licking my face. Apparently, he liked it as well. Free cat tongue exfoliation, anyone? Seriously, not only did it moisturize my skin, it helped tremendously with the little annoying face breakouts that have plagued me lately. Did I mention that coconut oil is CHEAP???? Dear Coconut Oil, I love you!
4. National Compliment Day
Wednesday was National Compliment Day. Truly, there is a day for everything. My goal for Wednesday was to give as many compliments as possible. Sometimes, I had to reach to say something complimentary. But I found the more compliments I gave, the happier I felt. Again, that’s the power of positivism! Note to self- more compliments and less negative thoughts!
5. A Trip to Target
Target makes me happy. I could spend hours (and a small fortune) in Target. I always find the coolest things there! Shopping trips are very rare these days since the singledom cash flow it tight, but I sometimes go to browse. I like to see what’s new. Usually I can talk myself out of most purchases – and trust me, that’s a very new tactic for me. However, I rarely come out empty handed. Thursday was no different. I came home with a pair of awesome new workout pants and a fantastic coffee mug. These days, I’m obsessed with collecting coffee cups with gold handles. I know…I don’t understand it either. Fortunately coffee cups are an inexpensive way to bring much joy to my life. There are other gold-handled coffee cup collectors out there, I know it….
So, those were my happies this week.
Have a great weekend and don’t forget to count your happies next week!
